The APA title page, two ways.

Student title page

Put the page number in the top right corner of the title page, which is page 1. Then, three or four lines down from the top, centered (APA 7, 2.3):

1. The title, in bold and title case. One extra double-spaced blank line follows it.
2. Your name: first name, middle initial, last name, with no degrees.
3. Your department and school: Department of English, State University.
4. The course number and name: ENGL 101: College Writing.
5. The instructor, as they prefer to be addressed.
6. The due date, written month day, year: November 2, 2026.

No running head, no author note and no abstract unless your instructor asks.

Professional title page

• Running head at the top left: a short title, 50 characters or fewer, in capital letters. The page number stays at the top right.
• Title, bold and centered, then the byline (authors) and affiliation (department and institution).
• Author note in the bottom half of the page, under the bold centered label Author Note, with ORCID iDs, disclosures and a contact address as needed.
• No course, instructor or due date.

The words “Running head:” on the title page belong to APA 6. APA 7 dropped the label for both kinds of paper.

Writing the title

• Bold, title case (APA 7, 6.17): capitalize words of four or more letters, and every major word; lowercase short articles, conjunctions and prepositions unless they start the title or subtitle.
• Focused and specific, with no abbreviations.
• The same title appears again, bold and centered, at the top of the first page of text.

The two styles agree here; they differ on words of four letters or more that are prepositions, such as With and From, which APA capitalizes and MLA does not.

Questions
